Introduction
The Stena Elektra is expected to be operational by 2030, with an operating capacity of 50 nautical miles, which is the distance between Göteborg and Fredrikshamn. An initial order is anticipated for no later than 2025.
The vessel’s structure will be made of lightweight materials such as steel with high strength. Our goal is to reduce its weight as much as possible to increase its operational efficiency. Furthermore, the ship will feature a more flexible structure that can be tailored to the distribution of freight and passengers. The 200-meter long RoPax vessel will have a passenger capacity of 1.000 persons and a freight capacity of 3.000 lane meters.
This project is vital for Sweden to gain know-how about battery operation. As of now, battery operation has been tested on Stena Line’s vessel, Stena Jutlandica. The installation of batteries is currently being assessed for both upcoming orders and existing ships and offshore units in Stena’s fleet.
